“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance” NKJV
Hello, my name is Pastor Lita Madaka from Uniting Presbyterian Church of Dutywa, South Africa. This is my Cross testimony of how keeping my word to Jesus changed everything in my life.
I was born in the small village of Tsomo, South Africa. Mom was a Christian and made sure me and my younger brother were in church every day the doors were open. Our dad was steeped in ancestor traditions and worship and contributed very little to us. We were very poor but mom always found a way as she prayed daily to Jesus for guidance.
I was a good kid all throughout school. When I was nearing the end of high school I needed some help. I turned to Jesus. The asking came with a price. I said, “Jesus, if you will protect my mom as I leave after high school and provide a job for me — I will work for you for the rest of my life.” It was a covenant, a promise and a vow.
Jesus did it. When I graduated high school my mom became secure and I went to work for the Department of Education as a clerk. It was a good paying job and over time I became very good at what I was doing. I was doing well and had plenty of money. The only problem — I was not satisfied with my job. It was unfulfilling and empty.
This went on for years. I had visions of me preaching in church. I had dreams of being a Pastor. I heard the voice of the Lord all this time reminding me of my vow — but I suppressed it for six years. Finally I had enough! I realized that the Lord had provided everything requested in my covenant. But I had not stepped up to complete my part of the promise.
Once I determined to fulfill my promise to Jesus there was a new song in my heart. I woke everyday singing praises to the Lord. I resigned from the Department of Education and took a part time job as a police chaplain and counselor. I entered the University of Stellenbosch Theological School. There was joy in my heart.
One year later I met Lungelwa, my future wife. We now have two children. One boy and one girl. Our daughter is Khanyisile and our son is Linokhanyo.
During my last year of college we married. My first assignment was as a probationary Pastor for one year and then I was ordained. Soon after ordination I became the full time Pastor of this church. That was 10 years ago.
Today I am Pastor of this church and the youngest Moderator (Bishop) of our denomination. There are many churches that look to me for guidance.
My special gift from the Holy Spirit is in counseling. I council marriages, Pastors in their duties and prisoners as needed. Now in addition to my Pastoral duties I am employed by the South African Police as a Chaplin. It helps support my family and the church does not have to carry the burden of meeting my needs.
My favorite bible verse is Revelation 15:3b “Great and marvelous are Your works, Lord God Almighty! Just and true are Your ways, O King of the saints!” NKJV
The Cross means reconciliation to me. All of mankind intersected with the Lord of the universe and access was granted to eternity with Him.
This Cross planted today is a reminder to the neighborhood that Christ is everything. He took the bad and gave us the opportunity to access heaven when we believe in Him. Christ rolled away the stone and He is alive. And Christ will roll away the stones in our lives.
Jesus will roll away the stone of Poverty
Jesus will roll away the stone of Persecution
Jesus will roll away the stone of Loneliness
Jesus will roll away the stone of Marital Problems
Jesus will roll away the stone of Isolation
Jesus will roll away the stone of Accusations
Jesus will roll away the stone of Pornography
Jesus will roll away the stone of Lust
Jesus will roll away the stone of Addiction
Jesus will roll away the stone of Bearing False Witness
Yes, Jesus will do all this and much more when we surrender all to Him.
Prayer: Father thank you that for thousands of years when You’ve made a covenant, promise or vow I can count on it. Help me be as dependable when it comes time for me to fulfill any covenant, promise or vow I’ve made before You. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
